Fairfax County Police issued the alert below about this weekend's traffic switch at I-95 at the Wilson Bridge. This primarily impacts drivers coming into Virginia from the north over the Wilson Bridge, but there could be related delays along the I-95 corridor.
Travelers driving to Northern Virginia along I-95 might need to consider taking alternate routes. Traffic conditions can be monitored online at www.wilsonbridge.com or via radio at WTOP, which has traffic reports every 10 minutes on the 8s, is located 103.5 FM / 820 AM.

HEADS UP I-95 TRAVELERS: Second Half of Traffic Switch Onto New Wilson Bridge Occurs Next Weekend Far More Severe Delays Expected Than During June Traffic Switch Affecting I-95 South Traffic
WHAT: Interstate 95 South/Capital Beltway Inner Loop traffic will be switched onto the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge next weekend (July 14-17), completing the transfer of all six lanes to the new bridge. I-95 South/Inner Loop will be reduced to a single lane and several ramps on both sides of the Potomac River will be closed and detoured, as this second half of the new bridge traffic switch takes place.
Travelers should prepare for much more severe delays than occurred during the first new bridge traffic switch in June. Traffic impacts are expected to be worse due to there being no major I-95-diverting detour in effect, as there was in June at the I-95 North/Springfield Interchange. Last summer during a nearly identical operation, I-95 South backups stretched as far as seven miles and delays peaked at 3 hours.
WHEN: Closures and detours will be in effect from 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 14 until as late as 5:00 a.m. Monday, July 17.
WHERE: I-95/I-495 South will be reduced to a single lane for approximately four miles from the Maryland 210 interchange across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to the Route 1 interchange in Virginia. WHY: The closures are necessary to mill and pave connections to and from the existing Beltway alignment to the new bridge alignment, which is approximately 30 feet to the south.
